It is 'important' people understand benefits of electric cars

People need to understand the benefits associated with electric cars during a time of fast-paced changes in the industry, one expert has commented.

Paul Everitt, Chief Executive of the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, was remarking on the publication of a new booklet on eco-friendly vehicles by the organisation.

The Electric Car Guide aims to help motorists make informed decisions when purchasing a hybrid vehicle.

It answers common queries on topics such as batteries, charging, vehicle performances, cost, government incentives and safety.

Mr Everitt said the speed at which car technologies have been developing over the past decade has increased significantly and it is therefore more vital than ever to help motorists navigate the range of choices they face.

"It is important they understand the benefits they can experience, equipping them with the best information to make the right purchasing decision for their driving needs," he continued.

Nissan recently began production of its Leaf car in Japan, which it claims is a zero-emission machine and the first mass-market priced and family-sized electric vehicle in the world.
