Jaguar 'aims to increase sustainability with VCA certification'

Date: 26/4/2010
Jaguar has undertaken an assessment of the environmental impact of its latest XJ model to help identify new opportunities for sustainability improvements.Full certification of the study from the Vehicle Certification Agency (VCA) has been received and Jaguar claims its results will help identify the development of the next generation of sustainable cars.
Project leader for XJ certification Tony Higgins said: "VCA certification is an important milestone in Jaguar's mission to reduce the environmental impact of its products."
He added that detailed studies of the car's lifecycle, from manufacture through to disposal, helps the company to understand the most effective ways in which steps can be taken to reduce the car's carbon footprint.
CEO at VCA Paul Markwich said he was pleased to see industry "embracing initiatives such as life cycle assessment."
One method Jaguar has developed as part of its drive to cut carbon emissions from its vehicles is the use of lightweight aluminium bodies. The company believes the lighter weight of the vehicles make them more efficient, helping to improve engine efficiency and fuel consumption levels.
