JLR hybrid prototype wins award

JLR hybrid prototype wins award

Date: 23/11/2011

A luxury, environmentally-friendly car from Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has been commended for its approach to sustainable transport.

The vehicle was awarded the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders' (SMMT) 2011 award for automotive innovation for its prototype Range_e.

This is the first ever luxury plug-in hybrid electric 4x4 motor, which comes with an integrated V6 diesel engine.

Chief Executive of SMMT Paul Everitt described the vehicle as "highly efficient and technologically advanced."

The award was introduced by SMMT to highlight the UK's role in developing automotive products for a global market, as well as the importance of continued research and development.

Chief Engineer of Hybrids at JLR Peter Richings said: "Innovation and technology are the lifeblood of our business and we are delighted that our work has earned this recognition from our industry peers."

Citroen is also launching itself into the eco-friendly vehicle market, as earlier this month it introduced the C3 e-HDi 70 Airdream EGS VTR+, which produces the lowest emissions of its entire range of cars.
