Journey times fall on UK's A roads

Date: 10/2/2012
Motorists using A roads during the final three months of 2011 are likely to have experienced shorter journey times than at the same time in 2010.This is according to new data published by the Department for Transport, which revealed the average speeds on such routes in Q3.
Speeds on A roads during the weekday morning rush hour were 0.5 per cent faster in October 2011 than the same time the previous year, with the average motorist travelling at 24.9 mph.
Similarly, they were 3.7 per cent quicker in November and 6.7 per cent faster in December.
The government suggested this was down to better weather in 2011, although there has been a general upward trend in this area over the past 11 months.
This comes after research conducted by Direct Line found drivers in Manchester face the worst congestion in the UK and travel at an average of 13.3 mph through the city during rush hour.
