Kenya unveils plans to build one of the longest flyovers in Africa

Date: 27/10/2011
Kenya has announced plans to build one of the longest flyovers in Africa, to replace the abandoned Nairobi Urban Toll Road project, AllAfrica.com has reported. The initial toll road plan was first put forward in 2007, in the hope of improving the performance of the Northern Corridor in Kenya, connecting the port of Mombasa with Nairobi.
New plans are still being prepared and will be submitted to the World Bank board for funding application in March 2012.
The Kenyan government is considering other financial options through an ongoing government roundtable conference with Arab Development Partners. A Nairobi southern bypass deal is also on the verge of being signed in partnership with the Chinese government.
This bypass will be a dual carriageway, stretching 28km between Ole Sereni Hotel and Kikuyu Town. It is expected to take up to 30 months to complete and will help ease the traffic of heavy commercial vehicles on Mombasa road.
