Kia receives ultra low carbon award from What Car?

Date: 12/1/2012

Kia has been awarded the What Car? ultra low carbon award for its "dramatic progress" in the sector.

Models launched by the manufacturer have the lowest average CO2 emissions of any vehicles introduced over the past 12 months, the car buying guide stated.

It also praised Kia for achieving this without using hybrid technology, which is very expensive.

Attention was drawn to the Kia Rio, which is the world's most eco-friendly non-electric vehicle with a figure of 85g/km CO2.

Chief Operating Officer of Kia Motors Europe Paul Philpott said the company has aimed to deliver "exciting, attractive, high-quality cars" that use cleaner technologies, while still being affordable for customers.

Other winners in the What Car? awards were the Mercedes-Benz S-Class - which was crowned best luxury car for the seventh year in a row - and the Ford Mondeo, which was named best family car and best estate car.

The ceremony was held at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London.
