Land Rover showcases new bike in Geneva

Date: 3/3/2011
It may be best known for the 4x4s and other motorised vehicles it produces, but this week Land Rover has unveiled a new road bike.On display at the Geneva Motor Show, the Range Rover Evoque concept bicycle has been created by a team led by the manufacturer's Design Director, Gerry McGovern.
Featuring a Karbona carbon fibre monocoque frame, the two-wheel vehicle has been built to be both lightweight and aerodynamic, in addition to looking "cool and utterly contemporary", Land Rover claims.
Meanwhile, the wheels were especially commissioned for the project and are made of aero-profiled carbon fibre that allows for both speed and stability.
Mr McGovern says of the creation: "I wanted to create the ultimate accessory for the Range Rover Evoque - and what could be more perfect than an utterly contemporary, beautifully designed, bespoke Evoque bike. Like the Range Rover Evoque, the bike not only looks fantastic but is precision engineered for ultimate performance."
Elsewhere, Transport for London announced plans last month to fund the creation of cycling hubs on the outskirts of the capital.
