Liverpool firm wins national freight award

A prestigious awards ceremony has named UK Couriers the industry's Company of the Year for 2009, it has been revealed.The Liverpool Daily Post reveals that the Merseyside-based organisation has been given the honour at the annual Courier Exchange Awards.
The online freight exchange organisation allows operators to post loads and available capacity to find vehicles to move their goods and UK Couriers has used the service in order to boost its business.
UK Couriers managing director Andy Cookson told the newspaper: "Being a member of the exchange has been great for us, as it has opened up a whole new avenue of business enabling us to work with multinational companies who use our operation as a hub."
Lyall Cresswell, managing director of Transport Exchange Group, added that UK Couriers had used the exchange service "to the full" to get the most out of it for their business.
In related freight news, the Peterborough Evening Telegraph has reported that Spalding could become a major rail freight hub in order to ease congestion on the East Coast Main Line.
