Logistics work continues ahead of Olympics

Date: 5/5/2011

As work continues to get London ready for the Olympic Games it will host next year, a conference is set to be held offering advice on how to manage deliveries during the event.

The Freight Transport Association, which will head the meeting on May 11th, notes that the logistics sector is currently working towards making sure that no part of the supply chain is compromised once the Olympic Stadium opens its doors next summer.

Andrew Forster, editor of Local Transport Today, will chair the conference - entitled Managing Deliveries and Servicing During the Olympic Games - while the Olympic Delivery Authority, Transport for London (TfL), the Metropolitan Police, UPS and the Noise Abatement Society will all give presentations.

Topics set to be addressed include the Olympic Route Network, the possibility of employing night-time deliveries, local area traffic management in the capital and the overall impact and legacy of the Games.

In March, TfL announced that London Underground is inviting tenders from telecoms firms to provide Wi-Fi access at 120 stations throughout the Tube network in time for the Olympics.
