London boroughs receive transport upgrade funding

Funds have been allocated to a selection of local London transport improvement initiatives through the Local Implementation Plans.Transport for London has revealed the 2012/13 package of measures will include schemes to improve road safety and upgrade cycling and walking facilities in the capital's boroughs.
Some £1 million has been allocated to the Wood Green project in Haringey to ease congestion in the town centre, as well as to make buses more reliable and address parking and loading problems.
While £2.3 million has been dedicated to the upgrade of Sydenham High Street in Lewisham, £320,000 will be used to improve Mitcham town centre and ease congestion.
Mayor of London Boris Johnson said: "Every London borough is receiving money that will directly benefit communities, making London an even better place to live and work."
This comes just after the Department for Transport announced £854 million has been allocated to local transport initiatives up and down the UK.
