London Bridge station set for major upgrades

Date: 21/12/2011
Plans have been unveiled to redesign London Bridge train station in a bid to reduce congestion.Accessibility will be improved thanks to new entrances on Tooley Street and St Thomas Street, while the site will also become home to the largest station concourse in the UK.
Furthermore, it will be able to accommodate longer trains arriving on a more frequent basis as part of the £6 billion Thameslink programme to improve rail travel in the capital.
Work will begin in 2013 and the station will remain open throughout the course of the upgrades, which are due for completion in 2018.
Network Rail Chief Executive David Higgins said: "London Bridge is one of the busiest stations in the country and this investment is vital for passengers who want more space, less congestion and better services."
This is not the only station in the city to be undergoing improvements, as construction work worth £500 million has recently been completed at King's Cross.
