London Overground enjoys popularity boost

Date: 30/6/2011

Customers of the London Overground have told of their confidence in the network.

According to Transport for London, the latest Passenger Focus poll reveals that 89 per cent of respondents are satisfied with the service - a 17 per cent increase on 2010 figures.

In addition, London Overground gained the top performance in the Network Rail tables in terms of punctuality.

While 77 per cent of passengers revealed they are satisfied with the frequency of these trains - up from 51 per cent in 2010 - 78 per cent of respondents claimed that they were happy that the carriages arrived on time, up from 63 per cent 12 months ago.

Train cleanliness, security and available space were also all noted to have seen improvement.

Mayor of London Boris Johnson said the results come after three years of "hard work and investment" have been put into the service.

"This is a railway upgraded, refurbished and ready to serve Olympic visitors as well as leaving Londoners with an early legacy of punctual, reliable and safe journeys," he added.

Bus services in the capital have also seen a surge in popularity, with ridership increasing by 60 per cent since 2000.
