London supports teen road safety campaign

Date: 10/3/2011

Young people are being urged to keep road safety in mind when they are travelling in London this spring.

Transport for London (TfL) has launched the new campaign - Don't Let Your Friendship Die On The Road - which will see posters going up around the city featuring some famous faces from the stage and screen.

Celebrity ambassadors including Lenora Crichlow and Russell Tovey from BBC Three's cult show Being Human and artists Wretch 32, Yasmin and Dels will all act as ambassadors, featuring in online videos that urge young people to look out for each other when on the roads.

Ben Plowden, Director of Better Routes and Places at TfL, said: "Although the number of teenagers being killed or seriously injured on London's roads has fallen dramatically over the past decade, our work is not yet done."

According to the group, since the campaign first launched in 2000, there has been a 55 per cent decline in the number of teenagers killed or seriously injured on the capital's roads.

This year's Road Safety Week from Brake will also focus on teenage drivers, with the theme 2 Young 2 Die.
