London Underground passengers to receive free Wi-Fi

London Underground passengers to receive free Wi-Fi

Date: 15/3/2012

Free Wi-Fi will soon be available to many passengers using the London Undergound.

From this summer, Virgin Media will offer the service in 80 tube stations, while it will be expanding to 120 locations by the end of the year.

This will enable passengers to check their emails or browse the internet while they are waiting for the train, as well as access Transport for London travel information.

Mayor of London Boris Johnson said this kind of development is particularly important ahead of the Olympic Games in July and August, when millions of extra people will be using the city's transport network.

Chief Executive Officer of Virgin Media Neil Berkett added: "With the eyes of the world on London this summer, we'll be showing off our capital as a leading connected city on the global stage."

The Olympic Games begin on July 27th and many of the capital's tube stations have been upgraded in time for the sporting event.
