London Underground resumes normal service following strike

Date: 5/10/2010
The London Underground (LU) has resumed a normal service today (October 5th), following yesterday's strike action.Mike Brown, Managing Director of the LU, called the demonstrations headed by the National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers and the Transport Salaried Staffs' Association a "wasted exercise".
He maintained the capital "kept moving" yesterday, in spite of a predicted standstill.
Up to 40 percent of tube services ran during the strike, while most central London stations stayed open, according to Transport for London.
Mr Brown thanked the public for its "resilience and patience", as well as the staff who helped people complete their journeys.
"We remain ready for constructive talks and we are urging the two unions to return to work with us to resolve the issues without further disruption," he remarked.
Mayor Boris Johnson has called for the law to be changed to make it more difficult for unions to strike.
