Hounslow is scheduled to receive £267 million in financing for a road improvement and maintenance project over the next 25 years. The upgrades are funded as part of the UK's £1.3 billion Private Finance Initiative to improve local roads.
The scheme is intended to upgrade road surfaces, build footpaths and cycleways, improve traffic signals and signs and maintain bridges for the borough.
Transport Minister Sadiq Khan said the project will benefit all road users, from drivers and buses to cyclists and pedestrians, which he noted are all vital to businesses and community health.
"The improved infrastructure will attract businesses to the area, providing a boost to the local economy," said Mr Khan.
The project procurement phase is expected to begin in early 2010 and work on Hounslow's 432 km of roads and 762 km of footway is slated to commence by 2013
