London's electric car charging network to launch in 2011

Date: 8/11/2010
London's city-wide electric vehicle charging network, Source London, will be launched in spring 2011, Mayor Boris Johnson has announced. The initiative is set to deliver 1,300 charging points across the capital by 2013 and will allow people to use any one of the stations by paying a £100 annual membership fee, rather than having to register for each separate borough as is currently the case.
Mr Johnson said: "Through the development of Source London, we are seeking to create the fertile conditions for electric vehicles to flourish to make our city the electric driving capital of Europe."
The scheme marks an exciting stage in electric motoring, with many manufacturers preparing to launch new affordable hybrid cars over the next few years, he continued.
However, TheGreenCarWebsite recently noted consumers still have concerns about electric cars on issues such as cost and charging infrastructure, which are halting the progress of eco vehicles.
