Looking at a phone while driving 'could be fatal'

Date: 2/9/2010
A second's lost concentration spent looking at a phone while driving could make the difference between life and death, it has been claimed.Keith Beasley, Road Safety Officer for Slough Borough Council, reminded drivers of the dangers of sending a text message at the wheel after a new campaign was launched by the local authority, the Slough and Langley Observer reported.
The project seeks to promote the slogan 'Is your text message a matter a life or death? It could be', through a hard-hitting advert to be displayed on posters and billboards.
It shows a driver about to send a text with the words 'Hi darling. Just about to run someone over.' on the phone's screen.
Mr Beasley commented: "You might think you can stop concentrating on driving for just that short amount of time, but it could be the difference between life and death for you or someone else."
The Northern Echo recently stated David Bowe, Chairman of the 95 Alive safety partnership, said a single lapse in concentration on the road could be fatal for motorcyclists.
