Lord Deighton to lead HS2 taskforce

Lord Deighton, who played a vital role in handling infrastructure during the London Olympics, has been appointed to lead a new HS2 taskforce.Currently serving as the Commercial Secretary to the Treasury, Lord Deighton will be responsible for leading a team designed to ensure the economic potential of HS2 is realised - specifically in terms of job creation and business growth.
"I know from experience that big projects can bring big rewards - boosting business, inspiring innovation and creating jobs. HS2 is of vital importance to this country's growth and will help us compete in the global race," he said after agreeing to lead the Growth Taskforce.
Transport Secretary Patrick McLoughlin explained the body had been established to "secure our country's future prosperity" as the Government moves to ensure it keeps its promise that HS2 will bring substantial economic benefits to the north and south of the UK.
The announcement comes after the first HS2 bill successfully passed a vote in Parliament yesterday (June 26th).
