Lorry campaign warns motorists of road dangers

Date: 10/9/2010

The government has teamed up with the Stobart Group and Tesco to launch a new road safety campaign.

Adverts will be displayed on the backs of 200 trucks to remind motorists of the dangers of driving while tired and to refrain from using mobile phones behind the wheel as part of the state's THINK! operation.

Road Safety Minister Mike Penning, who yesterday (September 9th) visited the Stobart Group in Widnes to mark the launch of the initiative, commented: "The THINK! truck backs campaign is a fantastic example of the public and private sector working together to get across important road safety messages to drivers while they are on the road."

Andrew Tinkler, Chief Executive Officer of the Stobart Group, stated lorries are a great way to raise public awareness as it is said an Eddie Stobart is seen every four to five minutes when driving along major UK roads.

Research recently conducted by charity Brake and Direct Line found 74 per cent of road users have driven while tired in the past 12 months.
