Stagecoach has been recognised for its work in making its fleet more environmentally-friendly at a ceremony in London. The Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership (LowCVP) Low Carbon Champions Awards honour firms operating in several key areas, such as fleet operation, vehicle manufacturing and product and services development.
In total, 44 organisations were shortlisted and Stagecoach won the low carbon vehicle operator of the year accolade, which was sponsored by TRL.
It was commended for lowering emissions produced by its vehicles and the measures that have been introduced through its Sustainability Strategy to reduce the harmful impact its operations have on the environment.
Stagecoach is putting these initiatives into action on its bus and rail services in the UK and US.
Greg Archer, Managing Director of the LowCVP, said: "These awards recognise best practice and innovation, highlighting leadership in accelerating the shift to lower carbon vehicles and fuels."
Nissan GB, Coca-Cola, Iveco and Element Energy were some of the other companies to pick up accolades.
Electric vehicles are one way in which firms can be more eco-friendly and Sustainable Development Manager at Legrand Alastair Ramsay recently claimed they have already had a remarkable impact considering widely-available motors of this kind were only launched earlier this year.
