Manufacturers announce discounts to help drivers meet LEZ standards

Date: 9/5/2011
New discounts have been announced by some vehicle manufacturers that will help operators meet the new green standards that are to be introduced in the UK capital next year.Transport for London reports that the Low Emission Zone (LEZ) will undergo changes in January 2012, with minibuses, larger vans and horse boxes - among others - set to be effected.
These motors will be required to meet the Euro 3 standard for particulate matter in order to operate within the LEZ without incurring a charge.
Renault, Fiat, DAF, Peugeot, Mercedes-Benz and Ford are among the manufacturers that are offering deals to drivers of such vehicles that are aimed at making it more affordable to invest in a new, greener motor that will not be subject to the charge.
Boris Johnson, the Mayor of London, said: "I've already given extra breathing space during the depths of the recession before these standards are introduced and I am pleased that a number of manufacturers are now offering new discounts to aid us in our efforts."
According to motor industry group SMMT, registrations of alternatively fuelled vehicles are on the increase.
