Many truck drivers 'aware of fuel efficiency'

Many truck drivers 'aware of fuel efficiency'

Date: 23/12/2011

New research has revealed many of those who drive heavy goods vehicles for a living try to be as fuel efficient as possible on the road.

A web-based survey of members of the global Worldtrucker forum found 53 per cent of respondents always take this into consideration.

While 42 per cent said they sometimes think about fuel efficiency, five per cent claimed they never do.

As well as saving their haulage firms money, this has an environmental impact and can lower levels of carbon emissions.

Andrew Low, who is in charge of driver training at Volvo Trucks, explained educating employees on the matter is essential.

"It is important to work on awareness of this issue so that drivers understand that their efforts do make a difference," he added.

TyreSafe recently explained it has extended its original car safety campaign to include truck drivers in an attempt to make them aware of the importance of ensuring their wheels are in good condition.
