Mayor underlines value of 'Boris buses'

Date: 10/5/2013
Mayor of London Boris Johnson has hailed the impact of new low-emission Routemaster-style buses which have proven to be a real success story in the capital since they were introduced. The Mayor has, in fact, claimed that his order for 600 so-called Boris buses had safeguarded as many as 220 jobs in the region.
What's more, he observed that intense spending on London's transport network provided an immediate economic dividend outside the city.
Speaking to the Evening Standard, he added: "It is a pan-UK triumph. Investing in London transport drives tens of thousands of jobs around the country.
"Not only is London the motor of the UK economy but the needs of London for transport infrastructure are so colossal that it drives business around the country."
The order of Boris buses is worth as much as £212 million and underlines the Mayor's faith in the low-emission vehicles, which are a common sight in London.
