Mersey transport authority launches sustainable mobility website

Date: 18/7/2011
The Merseyside transport authority has launched a new website for young people designed to increase their knowledge of sustainable mobility.Click Liverpool reports that Merseytravel has built the site in-line with the Climatlantic Project - part of an initiative partnering countries along the Atlantic coastline that the group has been involved in since 2010.
The website is aimed at schoolchildren and it is hoped the resource will motivate them to think about energy saving and how they can reduce their carbon footprint.
Schools or individual pupils can also use it to make a pledge to live a greener lifestyle, while teachers can access lesson plans and assembly topics designed to teach young people about sustainable mobility options.
Neil Scales, Chief Executive and Director General at Merseytravel, said: "Climatlantic is a fun and easy-to-use website for people who want to find out more about the environment and making smarter travel choices like using public transport, cycling or walking."
Earlier in the month, the authority announced it had been successful in its bid to secure a portion of the government's Local Sustainable Transport Fund.
The money raised will go towards financing a number of projects, including the Sustainable Transport Infrastructure package of improvements.
