Mid-Cheshire line becomes community rail service

Date: 19/1/2012
The Mid-Cheshire railway line is now a dedicated community rail service.Rail Minister Theresa Villiers announced the news yesterday (January 18th), saying it will enable people in the local area to have more of a say in how the route is run.
Train companies will also work with community partnerships to discuss ways of improving the stretch between Chester and Manchester via Northwich.
Ms Villiers said: "I want to encourage communities to become more closely involved with their railways to help create the services and stations passengers deserve."
Managing Director of Northern Rail Ian Bevan also welcomed the news, adding it will support the creation of "innovative" methods of developing the line and improving experiences for both local residents and visitors.
Earlier this month, the Department for Transport revealed plans to build a new high speed rail network in the UK have been given the go-ahead.
Trains will travel at 250mph and the line will link London with cities in the north and East Midlands.
