Midlands to receive two key junction upgrades

Date: 18/7/2013
Two major junctions upgrades have been announced for the Midlands following the conclusion of the planning process by Roads Minister Stephen Hammond.Junction 19 of the M1 and the A45 and A46 Tollbar End junction are the two locations due for an overhaul.
Following the approval, the next stage of the process is to develop project designs.
Construction is due to commence between January and March next year, providing a boost to the 90,000 vehicles that use each junction every day.
"It is great that we have been able to give the green-light for both of these important interchanges and they can now move a step closer towards construction," said Mr Hammond.
He added that the upgrades will have a positive impact on the economy, while also reducing congestion in the Midlands, which will ensure journey times are faster.
"These improvements are vital for the economy, but most importantly for motorists in the Midlands, in reducing congestion levels and making journey times quicker in and around these two busy junctions," said Mr Hammond.
