Minister meets pupils for road safety presentation

Children from Great Barr have been having fun learning about road safety and this week one youngster's efforts resulted in her getting a prize.The Department for Transport reports that Road Minister Mike Penning presented six-year-old Simran Kaur from Grove Vale Primary School with her prize after she won the THINK! road safety competition, which attracted hundreds of applicants.
Simran's prize was a signed West Bromwich Albion shirt and football, while she also got to meet player Steven Reid and mascot Baggie Bird, as the club recently launched a partnership with THINK!.
Mr Penning said: "It is fantastic to see so many children engaging with road safety education and learning how they can keep themselves safe."
Meanwhile, Rob Lake, Director of the Albion Foundation, explained that the first-team players are supporting the campaign, which has seen regular sessions with schoolchildren in the Sandwell area used to put across the road safety message.
In related news, the Herald Series reports that police in Abingdon are attempting to improve road safety by meeting with every child and their parents at local schools.
