Minister to address freight sector about carbon reduction

Date: 27/5/2011
The business benefits of reducing greenhouse gas emissions is a topic that is to be addressed when the UK's Roads Minister meets with members of the heavy goods vehicle sector next month.June 7th will mark the Freight Transport Association's Logistics Carbon Reduction Conference in London, at which Mike Penning, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Transport, will speak to attendees about how they can contribute to the UK's carbon reduction targets.
In addition, operators will learn more about the latest practices proven to help reduce harmful emissions, along with the important role driver training will play in achieving these goals.
Alternative fuels and low-carbon technology will also be up for discussion.
In April, Mr Penning revealed he had endorsed the Logistics Carbon Reduction Scheme.
This is a voluntary industry-led project aimed at reducing greenhouse gasses by recording and reporting any cuts the freight sector makes in its emissions.
