Ministers to discuss rising fuel prices in parliament

Date: 13/6/2011
The subject of the UK's rising fuel costs will be discussed in Parliament this week.Tomorrow (June 14th), Robert Halfon, Conservative MP for Harlow, will raise the topic in the House of Commons as part of a parliamentary debate.
He claims that the price of running vehicles is the "number one" issue within his constituency and across the rest of the country, affecting both households and businesses.
Mr Halfon adds that while motorists are "genuinely suffering", the high price of petrol and diesel is preventing new jobs from being created and the economy from growing.
In light of this, he has written to the major energy companies to request that they reduce their charges.
Commenting on the news, Chief Executive of the Road Haulage Association Geoff Dunning said: "The Chancellor of the Exchequer [George Osborne] promised a workable solution to stabilise the price of fuel in his [...] Budget. We must see this implemented as a matter of extreme urgency because for many, time is running out."
