More Britons 'willing to reduce car use'

Date: 27/1/2011

The number of Britons who have revealed they would reduce the amount they used their car in order to help the environment has increased.

According to the Department of Transport's study, which includes data compiled by the Office for National Statistics, 46 per cent of people said they would be willing to cut down the number of journeys they take in a car.

This figure rose to 64 per cent among those who admitted they were "very concerned" about climate change.

Meanwhile, 47 per cent of respondents revealed they would be willing to make more use of public transport, rather than a car, while 58 per cent said they would walk more often and 27 per cent claimed they would cycle.

Other findings from the survey included 66 per cent of people agreeing that driving tests should include more focus on environmentally-friendly driving.

According to a survey by Exchange and Mart, 37.5 per cent of people have decided to make at least one driving-related resolution this year, with many looking to become greener in this respect.
