Morgan introduces electric concept sports car

Date: 8/3/2012

Morgan has built a new electric sports car that aims to show how low-carbon vehicles can still be good to drive.

The Plus E features a 70kW (94bhp) 300Nm electric engine from Zytek and has a lightweight aluminium platform chassis with a five-speed manual gearbox.

Although it is currently only a concept motor, it could come into production if there is enough demand.

There is also a multi-speed transmission to help the vehicle use energy in a more efficient way, especially when it is travelling at high speeds.

"The Plus E combines Morgan's traditional look with high-technology construction and a powertrain that delivers substantial torque instantly at any speed," said the company's Operations Manager Steve Morris.

He added that the motor is "fantastic" to drive

Next Green Car's Zap-Map recently revealed there has been an increase in the number of electric vehicle charging points in the UK, as there are now around 2,000 up and down the country.
