Motor insurers 'helping drivers cut the cost' of uninsured motorists

Date: 26/7/2010
Motor insurers are doing all they can to help motorists in the battle against uninsured drivers, one expert has stated.Technical and Corporate Affairs Executive for the British Insurance Brokers Association Graeme Trudgill said innocent Britons should not have to foot the bill for those who do not get cover.
He noted insurance is based on a system of risk pricing, so if a person owns an expensive vehicle they are put into a higher group.
"The drivers are totally catered for as individuals. Motor insurance is extremely competitive," he added.
Mr Trudgill stated a range of factors influence a premium including occupation, amount of claims and the number of miles going to be driven all have an impact on the cost of cover.
He also explained cheaper policies are not always the best option and urged drivers to seek advice from a broker, as they will be able to tailor a package to a person's specific needs.
The specialist's comments follow the release of figures from AA Insurance, which revealed premiums rose by more than 11 per cent during the quarter to the end of June.
