Motorcycle safety campaign launched in Scotland

Date: 9/3/2012
Police forces in Scotland are joining forces to promote motorcycle safety. The Association of Chief Police Officers in Scotland has introduced a new campaign that aims to reduce the number of casualties in road accidents.
It will run from March 9th to 11th and road policing officers will be on the streets to speak to motorcyclists about maintaining their bikes to a high standard.
Furthermore, the issue of motorcycle awareness will be highlighted to other road users.
Road Policing Inspector at Lothian and Borders Police John Beresford said people who may not have ridden their bikes for a while could find "their skills may not be as sharp as they were previously and that road surfaces may have changed."
He added that vehicles should be checked to ensure they are completely roadworthy before people embark on a journey.
Police in Tayside are also supporting the initiative and the force explained that taking the time to give bikes a once-over now and again could save people money and hassle in the long run.
