Motorcycle safety site launched in Scotland

Date: 2/6/2011
A Scottish road safety campaign has seen the launch of a website provided to give information and advice to motorcycle riders in the country.Aroundthecorner.org.uk is included in the first Scottish National Motorcycle initiative and has received the backing of the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) of Scotland.
Users of the site will be able to read tips offered by police motorcyclists in the region they are hoping to visit, which will include popular routes in the area, safety information and biker-friendly local services.
In addition, there are maps that can be downloaded that include detailed descriptions, while people are invited to list any roads they think pose a risk to riders.
Commenting on the launch, Steve Allen, Deputy Chief Constable of Lothian and Borders Police, said: "As a keen motorcyclist myself I know the importance [of] reading a road and identifying hazards. If I can visit a website or speak directly to someone who knows the local roads, all the better."
Meanwhile, ACPO Lead for Casualty Reduction Chief Superintendent Charlie Common, of Lothian and Borders Police, noted that officers will continue to be proactive in order to improve Scotland's road safety record for bikers.
