Motorcycle testing and training regime under review

Date: 8/6/2010
Road Safety Minister Mike Penning has announced a review of the motorcycle testing and training system. It is believed the regime is being re-evaluated after concerns were raised from motorcycle groups.
Mr Penning said road safety is a top priority and the training given to would-be bikers is vital in slashing the number of motorcyclists injured and killed on the roads each year.
He remarked: "I am today asking riders, safety groups and motorcycle industry representatives to come forward with their ideas for how testing and training can be improved to ensure we produce safe, confident and responsible riders."
The Department for Transport will look at a range of issues, including the new test's off-road module, which will be closely examined.
Riders have also complained about the difficulty of accessing the off-road test centres, so this will be re-assessed.
Last month, Mr Penning launched a new website created to give motorcyclists advice on choosing the correct helmet.
