Motorcyclists urged to refresh skills ahead of winter hazards

Motorcyclists urged to refresh skills ahead of winter hazards

Date: 14/9/2010

Motorcyclists need to be prepared for additional safety hazards brought about by the changing weather, it has been suggested.

Katy Jenkins, Communications Manager for the Safer Roads Partnership in West Mercia, told the Kidderminster Shuttle now is the best time for bikers to improve their skills because autumn will begin to set in over the coming weeks.

The partnership has teamed up with Warwickshire Road Safety Unit to fund the Take Control Scheme, which offers motorcyclists a free or subsidised assessment day.

Ms Jenkins noted a large number of bikers will continue to ride their vehicles throughout winter.

At the training day they will have the opportunity to discuss how to drive safely all year round, she explained.

"Foggy mornings can reduce visibility and leave road surfaces slippery and even ground frost will occur over the next few weeks," Ms Jenkins remarked.

Recently, road safety campaigner Nina Morgan told the Express and Echo cyclists need to wear reflective clothing as the evenings begin to get darker over the coming months.
