Motorcyclists urged to take care on the roads

Motorcyclists urged to take care on the roads

Date: 16/9/2010

Police in Lancashire have urged motorcyclists to take care on their bikes and use the correct safety equipment.

Pendle Today reported officers in Burnley and Pendle are set to carry out additional road patrols in order to speak to motorcyclists about the importance of road safety.

Inspector Phil Davies of Pennine Division's Road Policing Unit said three bikers have died and another 17 been seriously injured in accidents since April.

It is "imperative" that the police does all it can to prevent these figures from increasing, he continued.

Mr Davies commented: "We're happy to speak to all riders, but will be specifically looking for those on bikes of 500cc and over, which statistics show are the most vulnerable when it comes to collisions."

He encouraged motorcyclists to take care, use the correct safety gear and check their vehicles are in good condition.

Earlier this week, Katy Jenkins - Communications Manager for the Safer Roads Partnership in West Mercia - told the Kidderminster Shuttle bikers need to prepare for additional safety hazards brought about by the onset of autumn.
