Motorists advised to check laws if they plan to drive abroad

Date: 14/6/2010
Motorists planning to drive abroad are being urged to make sure their vehicle complies with the law of the country they are visiting.A poll by YouGov, commissioned by Auto Windscreens, noted half of drivers quizzed need to wear glasses, but those planning on manning a vehicle in Spain will need to take a spare pair to keep in the car.
If individuals fail to conform they are actually breaking the law.
Also, parents who are considering letting their teenagers gain some European driving experience may want to think again unless they are at least 18 years old, which is the minimum driving age in France, Switzerland and Spain, among others.
Sales and Marketing Director at Auto Windscreens Nigel Davies remarked: "It's not just speed limits and road signs that you have to be knowledgeable of when driving abroad."
He added rules and regulations differ from country to country and not paying attention could land holidaymakers in serious trouble.
According to the Foreign & Commonwealth Office, Britons need to have a GB sticker on the back of their automobile if the number plate does not include this when driving in a country other than the UK.
