Motorists 'should allow extra time to reach Reading Festival'

Date: 25/8/2010

People travelling to Berkshire for the Reading Festival this weekend have been urged to allow extra journey time by the Highways Agency.

Festivalgoers should use public transport wherever possible to avoid traffic jams or otherwise try to car share, the organisation stated.

Drivers were also advised to take regular breaks and ensure their vehicles are prepared for the journey, with sufficient fuel and coolant.

The busiest times on the roads, particularly the M4, will be the afternoon of August 25th and 26th, as well as the morning of the 27th, as campers arrive.

Regular shuttle buses will be running from the train station to the site, the agency reminded festivalgoers, while those arriving by coach should be dropped off as close to the venue as possible.

The Reading Festival's website recommended individuals travel by public transport as they will get quicker access to the campsites because the car parks are not next to the main site.
