Motorists reminded to check tyres

Date: 29/3/2010
The dangers associated with driving on worn or damaged tyres have been highlighted. With the Easter break approaching, more people than usual could be out on the roads as they head off for a short break.
But it is important to prepare for such trips properly, Protyre warns, noting that simple checks should be carried out on a vehicle's tyres before setting off for an Easter break.
Ensuring tyres are at the correct pressure and have adequate tread depth are two of the key checks, the organisation advises.
"It's easy to forget to check your tyres with all the distractions of an Easter getaway, but they are critical for the safety of your vehicle," said retail director at the organisation Simon Hiorns.
Drivers should also remember that factors such as carrying more passengers or having a full boot can affect the recommended tyre pressure - so in order to remain as safe as possible, checks should be carried out.
