MOTs scrapped for classic cars

MOTs scrapped for classic cars

Date: 21/5/2012

Classic cars will no longer have to undergo an MOT test, it has been announced.

Roads Minister Mike Penning explained these vehicles are usually well maintained by their owners.

As a result, it is far more unlikely they will fail their MOT or lead to a road accident compared with standard motors.

Mr Penning added the government is committed to cutting red tape and this latest announcement is part of its plan.

Furthermore, the change should help people to save money.

"Owners of classic vehicles will still be legally required to ensure that they are safe and in a proper condition to be on the road," he added.

Records obtained by honestjohn.co.uk recently revealed one in five cars registered in the UK failed their first MOT in 2008, with those manufactured by Renault, Peugeot and Citroen the most likely not to pass.

While many had signalling problems, others had issues with their tyres.
