MP calls for investment in South West's transport links

Date: 3/5/2013
Businesses in the South West of Britain need the Government to commit to providing funding to improve transport links and boost economic growth in the region. That's according to Adrian Sander, MP for Torbay, who wrote in the Western Morning News that a greater emphasis has to be placed on widening the scope of transport networks in Cornwall, Devon, Somerset, Plymouth and Torbay.
The MP argued that successive Central Governments have overlooked the South West's need for better links to other areas of the country, explaining that this is the reason why the region has struggled to compete with big cities when it comes to economic growth.
In particular, Mr Sander stressed the importance of rail improvements to boosting business, saying: "There's a long list of things we should be asking for that would contribute to revitalising the regional economy over the next few decades, including the electrification of the main railway to Penzance."
