Network Rail has signed new framework agreements worth £1.5 billion to deliver new signalling projects as part of wider infrastructure reforms. The deals, which will begin on April 2nd 2012, will be in place for a control period of two years, before the possibility of an extension for a further five years.
Agreements have been awarded to Invensys Rail, Signalling Solutions and Atkins and will be delivered as part of plans to modernise railway signalling systems and ensure their safety
Network Rail Managing Director Simon Kirby said the growing number of passengers on Britain's trains means "the safety-critical systems we use to run a safe and efficient railway are more important than ever."
He added working closely with suppliers under the new framework means work can be carried out "quickly and efficiently."
Over Christmas, the transport organisation brought new track and signalling systems online at York train station to help ease congestion for services on the east coast main line.
