New Blackfriars platforms open to public

Date: 21/5/2012
The final two new platforms at Blackfriars station are now open to the public. This means over 700 extra trains can serve the transport hub every week.
Network Rail is also upgrading the central London section of the Thameslink route, which will mean better train services at night and the weekends.
First Capital Connect Customer Service Director Keith Jipps explained the changes will be "great news" for customers.
"We'll have 40 per cent more trains serving the station once we reopen at night and weekends," he continued, adding the new entrance at the south of the station will make Blackfriars ideal for those who like art and the theatre.
Upgrades to the station over the past few years have also included the introduction of new lifts and escalators, while air-conditioned Circle and District line trains will be launched from 2013.
However, Senior Programme Manager for Blackfriars Paul Byrne said there is still more work to be done.
