New concourse soon to open at King's Cross

Date: 9/2/2012

A new concourse will soon be open at Kings Cross train station in London, which is set to ease congestion for passengers.

Improvement work began in 2007 and passengers will be able to take advantage of the changes from March 19th 2012.

Further building work is still to take place as Network Rail is to remove the 1970s extension and canopy at the front of the station to make way for a public square.

Congestion will be eased through the introduction of new walking routes and a one-way system, as well as better connections to other forms of public transport.

The company's Programme Director for King's Cross Ian Fry said: "Research tells us that passengers consistently rate high-quality facilities alongside convenient retail and catering as important station priorities."

London Bridge station is also undergoing improvements, with new entrances introduced on Tooley Street and St Thomas Street.

Further changes will also mean the site is able to accommodate longer trains on a more frequent basis.
