New electric car charging point 'will make Hackney greener'

New electric car charging point 'will make Hackney greener'

Date: 28/9/2010

Hackney Council has installed the first electric vehicle charging point in the borough in a bid to make the area more environmentally friendly.

The Hackney Gazette reported electric car owners can now top up their vehicles at the Bentley Road car park in Dalston, after the charger was unveiled by Councillor Feryal Demirci and local authority officers.

Ms Demirci said the people of Hackney are behind the council's efforts to promote a move from petrol to electric-run cars.

"The launch of the borough's first public electric vehicle charging point will continue to help improve air quality and contribute to a reduction in carbon emissions," she continued.

Ms Demirci added the local authority is working to make the area a "cleaner and greener place".

Further charging points are planned in Hackney during the remainder of 2010 and in 2011.

The East Anglian Daily Times recently reported two free charging stations could be trialed in Bury St Edmunds.
