Date: 15/11/2011
A new road safety campaign has been launched in South Africa.Imperial's I-Pledge initiative was introduced in Johannesburg last week and encourages motorists to change their attitudes and make roads safer places to be, Southafrica.info reports.
The scheme was initially launched for employees within the company and has now been rolled out across the country.
Cyclists, motorists, pedestrians, bus and truck drivers have all been urged to get involved and Transport Minister Sibusiso Ndebele said it is the responsibility of all members of society to keep accidents to a minimum.
Executive Director for Strategic Development at Imperial Tak Hiemstra commented that "road safety starts with every one of us."
"We are now driving the campaign to the South African public to change their behaviour as well," the expert added.
Last month, Minister for Transport and Public Works in the Western Cape Robin Carlisle welcomed the decision made by National Transport Minister Sibusiso Ndebele to halt toll road projects.
