New theory books released ahead of driving test changes

Date: 20/9/2011
The theory part of the driving test is set to change from January 2012 and to help candidates prepare, the Driving Standards Agency (DSA) has published new revision books.Launched in July 1996, the theory examination portion must be passed in order for Britons to secure a full licence.
Up until now, the DSA has published all of the questions and answers that could potentially feature in the exam to help people revise.
However, it was announced last November that it will no longer make this information public, amid concerns that candidates could simply memorise the answers without fully comprehending what it means.
DSA's Chief Executive Rosemary Thew said: "This approach to learning will help candidates to gain a better knowledge and understanding of driving theory, which will help them respond correctly to the new, reworded live questions used in the actual test."
The new books for car, lorry, motorcycle and truck learner drivers were published yesterday (September 19th).
Last week, the House of Commons Transport Select Committee proposed introducing a tougher driving test that would help candidates develop real-world motoring skills in an effort to tackle congestion.
