New traffic signs for service stops on motorways

New traffic signs for service stops on motorways

Date: 19/10/2011

The Highways Agency intends to revamp service signs on UK roads so that motorists can make more informed choices about where to stop, in a bid to encourage safer travel behaviour.

Introducing six new logos for service stops to display, the Highways Agency's new signs will indicate facilities and franchises in operation on that site.

When completing a long drive, motorists are recommended to take regular breaks to help them keep alert at the wheel. Previous surveys have showed how drivers placed value on knowing what might be available for them at a rest stop.

Mike Penning, roads minister, said: "By encouraging drivers to take regular breaks, motorway service areas make a vital contribution to road safety."

He continued that motorists should have as much information as possible about the choices available at service areas, enticing them to use the available facilities.

As part of the government's new policy to review all traffic signs, this initiative will build on the current system and ensure that it meets the needs of all road users.ADNFCR-2726-ID-800762895-ADNFCR
